Adman’s Winning Environmental Approach Sustains An Award

Adman has a winning approach to sustainability whatever the project. And it is this attention to detail that has delivered a Construction Excellence Award for them. Tyrone based company Adman are a specialist engineering company operating across a range of sectors and their all-inclusive and sympathetic approach to environmental sustainability has marked them out as an industry leader.

Adman’s Greg Bradley explains:  “We are committed to a sustainable way of working so no matter what sector we are working in, the same high standards apply to the way in which we look after the environment before, during and after the project. Adman operates eight windfarms in sites across Northern Ireland. On each site environmental considerations are among the primary concerns. Every aspect of their planning takes into account the location, its unique environment and the appropriate steps to minimise our impact. “On each project we put in place an environmental plan that continually evolves throughout the project. This is supported by input from the client, our senior management, and other external sources such as the designers, ecologist and other relevant parties.    

“Our interaction with the Client is seen as an integral part of this process and the flow of information between each is critical to the success of any project. They will be familiar with any site issues.”Greg Bradley explained their approach: “When works are complete we reinstate the site, and this includes roads, cranes hard standing, and turbine foundations. We work closely with archaeologists, bird monitoring, and in SUDS design, water monitoring and provision of slit fencing to minimize our impact. “Our site environmental planning is continually updated and monitored for the lifespan of each project. These on site plans are essential for the effective management of the environment and ensuring our project team is continually briefed.“At Adman we have a rigorous environmental policy and all our plans are read and applied in that context. That includes a full risk assessment. We apply this process from the start of the project until completion.

He added: “We apply very rigorous standards to issues like management of surface water and hazardous materials, operating a consistent best in class approach. Where water must be removed from site we conduct an assessment of the best way to disperse it, whether that is discharged to land via settlement ponds or removed in tankers. All precautions are taken by our personnel to ensure there is no escape of alkaline or silty water entering ground water or surface water. “On every site we ensure that all materials are stored safely and in a way that they are not damaged prior to use or through exposure to the elements. For example all fuel, oil and chemicals are stored on an impervious base with a drip tray that has a 110% capacity of the products stored. All tanks are kept securely, and are clearly marked as hazards.Greg also explained how rigorous self-assessment is embedded in their work: “Each month we brief our management on energy use, environmental issues including updates from our incentivised ‘Good Catch and Near Miss’ reporting scheme across all sites, that is designed to eliminate potential health and safety hazards.”

It is evident that quality matters to Adman and testimony to this is their inclusion on frameworks with many Utility and Renewable companies. The rewards for their hard work has been most recently recognised in receiving this Construction Excellence Award.
